Planning an environmentally friendly wedding may seem like a lot of work, but there are so many innovative alternatives you can implement and experiment with that will make your wedding truly unique AND eco friendly!
Instead of gifts wrapped in plastic or those made with non-biodegradable products, consider choosing non-plastic bomboniere. You can even opt for the personalised option depending on the size of your guest list! The variety of plastic-free gifts is growing by the day and more often than not, these sustainable presents are the ones that are most remembered and appreciated. Consider ceramic candles, handmade soap bundles, succulents, or even homemade treats! A great chance to let your imagination run wild and think outside of the box!
Glitter be gone. It’s time to move forward from synthetic wedding confetti and move into the world of biodegradable confetti instead! Opt for dried flower petals or hole punch leaves instead. You are still guaranteed to get that instagrammable photo – in fact, it will probably be even more aesthetically pleasing than if you weren’t to use them. Pick your favourite flower from the garden and shower the newlyweds with those instead. It’s a truly beautiful and natural image, and the environment will thank you for it!
Single use plastic is so last season and if you are hosting your wedding here with us, then rest assured there’s no single use plastic plates or cups on our watch! There are lots of eco-friendly cutlery and crockery options available these days, so get on the bandwagon and get resourceful!
There is no denying that decorations can take a wedding from good to incredible, but the same can be said for non-plastic decorations. Instead of waiting for the next balloon to pop and scare the entire wedding party, get creative and use hemp buntings, dried flowers, or any material of that nature that can be easily disposed of (or possibly composted)! Materials such as timber, bamboo and glass can also be perfect to use for your wedding topper, seating charts and welcome signs and suit any rustic, bohemian themed weddings perfectly. You’ll probably find that you’ll be able to resell these items after your big day for the next eco concious couple to re-use. Winning!
Consider having a plastic-free bar to encourage your guests to jump on the eco-friendly bandwagon too! Provide refillable water jugs and glass-bottled mixers instead of those single-use plastic bottles. It’s worth considering your suppliers carefully and seeing if they align with your eco vision. Opting for local suppliers for both decorations and furniture is definitely the most sustainable avenue you can venture down as these items will be/have been used by other newlyweds. It is a super easy and practical way to go about setting up your wedding space and you will barely have to lift a finger.
Happy (plastic-free) wedding planning!
